The The University of Fiji and the ITaukei Trust Fund Board – TTFB yesterday reaffirmed its partnership through a signed Memorandum of Understanding. The MOU which was signed by the University’s Vice Chancellor Professor Shaista Shameem and Chief Executive Officer Mr Aisake Taito saw the two partners agree to collaboration through the power of indigenous learning and the preservation of culture.
Upon delivering her remarks , Professor Shameem welcomed the continued partnership with the Board highlighting its commitment over the years.
“This signifies the trust and confidence over the years that our two organizations have developed with each other over the past three years that we wish to continue and build on”, says Professor Shameem.
Alluding the same remarks , Mr Taito commended the works being done at the University expressing his gratitude for the milestones achieved.
“The Trust Fund in its efforts to uphold the preservation of indigenous language and culture, is thankful for the University in establishing its first and only dedicated Centre for iTaukei studies at the level of Higher Education”, says Mr Taito.
“The Trust Fund will continue to support initiatives that are within its mandate and this partnership, we are excited to witness the good that will come out of it but also rise above the lessons that arises out of it”, adds Mr Taito.
Under the MOU both parties agree to provide support in the development and enhancement of iTaukei studies curriculum and research programs,, integrate indigenous entrepreneurship, resource management and resource laws into formal education amongst other combined commitments.
The MOU signing was held at the University’s Samabula Campus and was witnessed by the Dean, Staff of both the Centre of iTaukei Studies and the iTaukei Trust Fund Board.
TTFB is excited to partner with the University of Fiji and looks forward to the intangible outcomes this will have on indigenous people as they prosper in both the field of education and entrepreneurship.
