Hon. Vasu Launches Rural Economic Empowerment Project for Tokatoka Nawaivuvu Trust in Naduri, Macuata

Naduri, Macuata – The iTaukei Trust Fund Board, in collaboration with the Tokatoka Nawaivuvu Trust, has launched an innovative economic empowerment project as part of the Solesolevaki Framework and Empowering the North Project. The initiative includes the establishment of ‘Crumbs Bakery’and *Korovou Homestay*, two ventures aimed at creating sustainable livelihoods and boosting economic opportunities for rural communities.

Crumbs Bakery and Mini Mart: A Local Lifeline

Located in Naduri, *Crumbs Bakery* is set to employ five full-time staff, offering much-needed jobs and fresh baked goods to the community. The adjacent mini mart will provide essential groceries for seven surrounding villages, reducing the need for residents to travel to Seaqaqa or Labasa for basic supplies. This initiative addresses a critical need for rural dwellers and is a step towards fostering local self-sufficiency.

Korovou Homestay: A Gateway to the Great Sea Reef

Situated along the Great Sea Reef – the third-largest reef system in the world – *Korovou Homestay* is poised to attract tourists, adventure seekers, and conservationists. With two full-time and two part-time employees, the homestay offers accommodations aligned with sustainable tourism principles. This initiative supports the *Na Vualiku Project* and highlights the community’s commitment to preserving their natural heritage while providing economic opportunities.

A Milestone for Economic Empowerment

Hon. Vasu, the Minister for iTaukei Affairs, officially launched the project, emphasizing its transformative potential for the region. “This project is a testament to the power of collaboration and the ingenuity of our communities. By investing in local enterprises, we are not only creating jobs but also laying the foundation for sustainable economic growth,” said Hon. Vasu.

Collaboration and Vision

The project exemplifies the iTaukei Trust Fund Board’s commitment to fostering collective action through the Solesolevaki Framework. By aligning with the *Great Sea Reef Community* and the *Na Vualiku Project*, the initiative underscores the importance of cultural, environmental, and economic sustainability in the North.
