The training that began today at Yasawa I Rara Village marks the start of a four-day workshop designed to teach contemporary crafts to the men, women, and youth of this remote community. The sessions include hands-on learning in various crafts, such as storyboarding for fashion design, facilitated by Rosie Semisi, whole nut processing led by Miliakere, and fine weaving by Lanieta Koroi. With an emphasis on practical experience, participants are fully engaged in the learning process, honing skills that are both creative and culturally relevant.
In collaboration with Market Development Facility , this training initiative responds to a request following the return of a cruise liner to the village earlier this year, after a 16-year hiatus. It aligns with the mandate of the iTaukei Trust Fund Board, which is focused on improving the livelihoods of iTaukei and Rotuman communities. The workshop is an invaluable opportunity for the people of Yasawa I Rara to develop new skills that will help empower them economically and preserve their traditional crafts in the modern world.
