PRIVACY POLICY OF IVOLAVOSA MOBILE APPLICATION

This Privacy Policy governs the use of the iVolavosa mobile application (“Application”), created and owned by the iTaukei Trust Fund Board (TTFB) and developed by Solutions Studio. The Application is based on the iVolavosa Vakaviti Dictionary (book), researched and published by the iTaukei Institute of Language and Culture under the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs.

The Application provides access to over 25,000 iTaukei words, 18,979 audio headwords, images, and supporting materials. It has been designed to be interactive, engaging, and educational, serving local users, the iTaukei diaspora, and learners of the Fijian language worldwide.

 The iVolavosa App has the following features:

• The App allows users to authenticate for full access, bookmark words, and add personal notes. Users can also use the app without logging in, but some features are restricted.
• The App displays a list of iTaukei words with clear explanations and real-world examples.
• The App allows users to view words by category (alphabet).
• The App allows users to comment on words (comments are displayed only after approval).
• The App allows users to request the inclusion of additional descriptions or details for words.
• The App can display audio pronunciations in authentic iTaukei accents.
• The App can display videos that illustrate words in real-life context for easier learning.
• The App displays Fijian parses with English translations, related words, audio, and images.
• The App allows users to search words, headwords, categories, common parses, or news in both Fijian and English.
• The App displays a “Word of the Day” to encourage daily learning.
• The App includes extra content such as:
• The Fijian calendar based on planting and fishing seasons (11 months).
• Common idioms and phrases in the Fijian language.
• Fijian numbers.
• More content to be added in the future.
• The App allows users to request translations of words or phrases into Fijian.
• The App allows users to bookmark common phrases for offline access, with options to organise bookmarks into lists or categories.
• The App supports both English and Fijian translations for all menus, titles, and descriptions, allowing users to switch languages easily.
• The App allows users to share word explanations and common parses with others.
• The App allows users to post and view “Stories” (images or videos), similar to WhatsApp.
• The App displays the latest News, updates, events, and educational content.
• The App has a section for Frequently Asked Questions with answers to common user issues.
• The App allows users to provide feedback about their experience.
• The App has a Help Centre, including feedback, word helper, FAQs, and video tutorials.
• The App has an “About” section with information on the app.
• The App allows users to rate and share the app.

 

What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?

User-Provided Information 

The Application may collect the information you provide through the search feature, interactions and bookmarked words & visited words of the application. This information may be used for analytical purposes.

We may also use the information you provided us to contact you from time to time to provide you with important information, required notices and marketing promotions.

User Accounts and Login

Our app allows users to create an account and log in to access all features. During the registration or login process, we may collect certain personal information, such as your name, email address and other relevant details. This information is used solely to:

• Authenticate your identity and provide secure access to the app.
• Enable you to use all features and functionalities of the app.
• Improve your overall experience and personalise the services we provide.

Your data will not be sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing purposes. Your data is stored securely and used only as described.

Automatically Collected Information 

The Application may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device you use, your mobile device’s unique device ID and the IP address of your mobile device. 

Does the Application collect precise real-time location information of the device?

The Application does not use any form of tracking technology (GPS or otherwise) to get the user’s real-time location information.

Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by the Application?

Yes. We will share your interaction information, but we will analyse it and not show your ID or name anywhere with third parties, only in the ways that are described in this privacy statement.

We may disclose User Provided and Automatically Collected Information:

• as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process;
• when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect our safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud or respond to a government request;
• with our trusted services providers who work on our behalf, do not have an independent use of the information we disclose to them and have agreed to adhere to the rules outlined in this privacy statement.
• if TTFB is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of all or a portion of its assets, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our Web site of any change in ownership or uses of this information, as well as any choices you may have regarding this information.

What are my opt-out rights?

You can stop all collection of information by the Application easily by uninstalling the Application. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network. You can also request to opt-out via email, at  mikas@itaukeitrustfund.com.fj.

Data Retention Policy, Managing Your Information

We will retain User Provided data for as long as you use the Application and for a reasonable time thereafter. We will retain Automatically Collected information for up to 24 months and thereafter may store it in aggregate. If you’d like us to delete User Provided Data that you have provided via the Application, please contact us at mikas@itaukeitrustfund.com.fj   and we will respond in a reasonable time. Please note that some or all of the User Provided Data may be required for the Application to function properly. 

Security

We are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. We provide physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect the information we process and maintain. For example, we limit access to this information to authorised employees and contractors who need to know that information to operate, develop or improve our application. Please be aware that, although we Endeavor to provide reasonable security for the information we process and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.

Changes

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.

Your Consent

By using the Application, you are consenting to our processing of your information as outlined in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by us. “Processing,” means using cookies on a computer/handheld device or using or touching information in any way, including, but not limited to, collecting, storing, deleting, using, combining and disclosing information, all of which activities will take place at the iTaukei Trust Fund Board, Fiji.
